Small but beautiful: this short circular hiking trail looks unspectacular at first glance, but it is quite a challenge and requires sure-footedness, so it is best to start with the ascent to the memorial plaque for Chief Forestry Officer Dr. Gottlob König. The path leads up a long, stony staircase. Chief Forestry Councillor Dr. Gottlob König worked extensively in the forests around Eisenach. The rock formation was named in his honor. After a rest on the plateau of the Königstein, the trail leads back down via a path and finally through the lower part of the Landgrafenschlucht gorge back to the starting point.

The ascent requires surefootedness. Please behave considerately and quietly in the forest to protect the flora and fauna. Follow the instructions of the forestry staff and pay attention to restrictions due to forestry work.
Coming from the A4, take exit 40a (Eisenach-Ost). Then continue on the B84 towards Eisenach until the "Eisenach-Oststadt" junction. Continue straight ahead on the B19 to the railroad station and continue south through the town. Follow the B19 in the direction of Wilhelmstahl / Etterwinden and Bad Salzungen until you reach the Phantasie parking lot or the Mariental parking lot, or use the parking lots in town or the parking garage at the train station.
ATTENTION: The Mariental is a popular excursion destination, with many day trippers visiting the region at weekends in particular. Please do NOT park along the busy main road if the parking spaces are full (no parking). Arrival by public transport is therefore recommended.
