Five Towers Tour (Averau, Nuvolau and Scoiattoli refuges) from Giau Pass
From Passo Giau, take CAI path 452, which climbs gently through high-altitude pastures to Rifugio Averau. From here you can climb to Rifugio Nuvolau, one of the most spectacular vantage points in the Dolomites,...
You then descend to Rifugio Scoiattoli, in the heart of the Cinque Torri group, where you can cross a unique environment among rocky towers and evidence of the Great War.
The return is along CAI path 443, which leads back to Passo Giau, closing the loop. The route alternates panoramic stretches, steady climbs and descents on rocky and dirt ground, making it varied and very scenic.
You then descend again to Scoiattoli Refuge, crossing the heart of the Cinque Torri group, among rocky landscapes and historical evidence. After crossing the area, take CAI path 443 that gently leads back to Passo Giau, thus closing the loop.

Dolomiti Bus to Cortina / Selva di Cadore
Then cab or seasonal bus to Giau Pass (services not always frequent)

At Nuvolau stop at sunset: the sun setting over the Cinque Torri is one of the most spectacular views in the Dolomites.
