The forest educational trail helps you not to overlook the forest for the trees and to appreciate its significance again. On various information panels you learn a lot about the functions of the forest (recreational area, protection against natural hazards, habitat for animals, etc.), the different types of trees, shrubs, and lichens, as well as the animal species living in the forest. Due to its predominantly forest route and short distance, the path is also well suited for bad weather days.
The themed trail begins in Furggstalden, which is conveniently accessible by the Saas-Almagell cable car. The path leads past the rustic Furggstaldenalp (= Furggstalu) to the forest road. After the first hairpin bend, the forest road turns right just below the Furggstaldenalp and leads in gentle switchbacks to Saas-Almagell. From the village square, PostBuses are available in all directions again.

Use only marked hiking trails and follow all signs and instructions – for your own safety, to protect farm animals, and without disturbing the peace of wildlife.
Be considerate to other trail users and the landscape. Take your rubbish and others’ rubbish with you. • Carry sun protection. UV rays at high altitudes can be very strong, even in cloudy weather.
Plan your hike carefully: consider the fitness level of all participants, weather forecasts, and seasonal conditions.
Weather conditions can change very quickly and without warning in the mountains. Appropriate clothing and sufficient provisions (food and drink) are very important. Return early if the weather is unstable.
Do not go onto glaciers without a mountain guide.
Observe warning signs that indicate dangers.
Inform third parties about your tour and, if possible, never go alone.
Pay attention to the opening times of the mountain railways.
By car, the Saastal valley is easily and conveniently accessible from all directions, whether from Switzerland or abroad. From the north, you reach us via Bern through the Lötschberg car shuttle. From the east you come via the Furka Pass or Furka car shuttle. From the south, we are accessible via the Simplon Pass or Simplon car shuttle and from the west you drive via Lausanne along the Rhone valley to Visp and from there in the direction of Saas-Fee.
From Visp, drive south towards Saas-Fee. At the "Killerhof" roundabout towards Stalden, take the second exit to Saas-Fee. In Saas-Grund turn right after the church towards Saas-Fee.
Take the SBB to Visp and change there to the PostBus towards Saas-Fee (bus 511).
In Saas-Grund change to the PostBus towards Saas-Almagell/Mattmark. Get off at the Saas-Almagell Dorf or Sportplatz stop.
There are two large car parks at the guest center or at the sports field.
