Before the construction of the valley road from Saas-Grund to Saas-Balen, the old valley trail was considered the only way through the valley and was correspondingly well used. The path begins at the village square of Saas-Grund, where the church once stood next to the cemetery. Today, only the tower remains from the former church. From there, the old valley trail leads through the village district "Gasse", past the artificial ice rink and through the village part "Under the Mountain" to the Trinity Chapel (built 1735). From there it goes through the old Tamatten to Bidermatten, where the junction to the Antonius Chapel (built 1692), dedicated to the Holy Family, is located. The path continues above the road over the "Meiggerli" to Saas-Balen.
