The cross-country ski trails in the Untertal valley are a hidden gem for cross-country skiers. The views into the valley head, towards the mountains surrounding the Klafferkessel cirque, and the meandering Untertalbach stream make these trails arguably the most beautiful in the region. Two skating loops – the Tettermoor Skating Trail and the Almenrunde Skating Trail – offer not only stunning scenery but also excellent training opportunities. The classic Kristall Trail often runs alongside the crystal-clear waters of the Untertalbach stream, and especially on cold winter mornings, the reason for its name becomes clear.

The cross-country ski trails in the Rohrmoos Untertal valley have also been awarded the Styrian Cross-Country Ski Trail Quality Seal.

Die Loipen im Untertal liegen fast zur Gänze über 1.000 Meter Seehöhe - nur ein kurzer Teil zu Beginn der Kristallloipe liegt knapp darunter (980 Meter). Die Loipen sind nicht beschneibar, aufgrund der guten Topographie des Untertales bilden sich dort allerdings Kaltluftseen am Talboden, die eine gute Schneesicherheit für die Loipe garantieren.
