Even though the Wanklifte in Oberammergau is a modest-sized operation, there’s always something to do to keep the two cable lifts – the platter lift and the banana lift – in good working order and to groom the slopes to perfection. Eight staff members, including the two managers, ensure that everything runs smoothly.

Tobias Papistock and Martin Kempfle know that constantly improving the facilities requires investment. As a result, a new 8-by-8-metre timber building has stood on the site since this winter: costs were kept down by carrying out some of the work themselves. It houses a warming room for children on ski courses, the ski hire shop, the lift ticket office and the registration desk for their own ski school. As well as children and families, the operators place a particular focus on young people among their target groups.

A 450-metre-long snow park with boxes, rails and kickers attracts freestyle skiers and a young crowd from the region and even from Munich, Fürstenfeldbruck and Augsburg to Oberammergau
