From the Switzerland-Liechtenstein border marker, you go into the center of Balzers. It’s worth cycling up the hill at Gutenberg Castle. The view from Gutenberg Castle, which towers 70 meters above the village, is breathtaking. On the "old country road," the route continues to Triesen. Along the way, it is advisable to stop at the Lawena Museum (opening hours apply) or visit the nearby rope park. At the St. Mamerta chapel, you can enjoy a beautiful view of Triesen.
Then follows the climb over the Wangerberg to the Walser village of Triesenberg. The village center is located at around 900 meters above sea level. The reward for the ascent is a magnificent view over the Rhine Valley. In Triesenberg, you should take time to learn about the Walser culture in the Walser Museum. Soon after, you pass the Triesenberg erratic boulder, which stands in the "Gruaba." It was transported into the country by the Rhine Glacier 28,000 years ago and has a volume of 40 cubic meters.
The subsequent descent leads the cyclist directly to Vaduz Castle, the landmark of Liechtenstein and residence of the princely family. The castle can only be viewed from the outside, but a virtual look inside the castle is possible with the LIstory App. Upon arrival in the traffic-free Vaduz town center, the visit to the museum mile with the Art Museum and the Hilti Art Foundation, the Postal Museum, the Treasure Chamber, and the National Museum beckons. In the Liechtenstein Center, you can get information or buy a souvenir. Those with some time to spare can learn more about Vaduz Castle and the princely family in the Fürstenkino. A relaxed way to explore Vaduz is a round trip with the Citytrain.
