Schwalenburg Ring Fort Trail

The Schwalenburg Ring Fort Trail invites you to a unique bridge between history and landscape. In direct contact with nature, a circular route leads you over one of the most impressive large castles of the early Middle Ages. According to its construction, it was built around the year 800 and abandoned before the turn of the millennium. On a total of eight information panels, you can learn interesting and exciting facts about the castle.

With an area of about 6 ha, Schwalenburg is one of the exceptionally large castles of the early Middle Ages. The site consists of three interlocking defensive rings, which are the result of several expansion phases. The defensive rings are preserved in the terrain as earth walls. They cover the remains of the former massive dry stone walls made of rubble stones.

Schwalenburg is one of the Sauerland soul places, its history carries the title "Eternally transient".
