The ski tour to the Kleiner Frauenkogel requires a lot of snow down to low elevations because the start is at about 600 m above sea level. Most of the ascent follows a moderately rising forest road until you reach open and extensive mountain slopes above the tree line. The long descent along the forest road resembles a flow trail due to the consistent gradient and is a lot of fun! Depending on the snow conditions, you can also take shortcuts through the partly sparse forest. There are no opportunities for a stopover, so be sure to bring your own provisions!
Starting from the Bärental power plant, follow a forest road through the so-called Bärengraben heading south until you reach the trail junction "Abzweigung Bärenhütte" at around 900 m above sea level. Here keep right towards "Kleiner Frauenkogel" and follow the forest road slightly downhill to a creek. Immediately after crossing the creek, a path branches off left from the access road. Follow this path through partly steep forest until you meet the forest road again. After a short flat crossing, continue along the summer trail through the forest at a bend, partly ascending steeply again, until you reach the Zollhütte junction at 1,300 m. Follow the signpost again towards "Kleiner Frauenkogel" along the summer trail marking until you reach clearly flatter and open terrain at around 1,450 m and about 1,550 m above sea level. The last approximately 200 vertical meters go over beautiful alpine meadows up to the summit of the 1,754 m high Kleiner Frauenkogel / Baba.

Take the A11 Karawanken motorway to the St. Jakob/Rosental exit. In the center of St. Jakob, follow the Rosenbach turn-off. In Rosenbach, turn right after the sharp left curve below the station and after about 2 km you reach the small parking lot at the Bärental power plant.
Take the S2 to Rosenbach station. From there it is about 2 km on foot to the Bärental power plant.
At the Bärental power plant parking lot or on the roadside
A visit to the "Chapel of the Forgotten Souls" at the former cemetery, very close to the starting point. This chapel commemorates on one hand the workers who died during the construction of the Karawanks railway tunnels at the beginning of the 20th century, and on the other hand it was caught in the crossfire during the Carinthian defensive struggle in 1919 and was shot up. The results can still be seen today, a truly eerie "lost place".
