Habitat Route - The Mecklenbruch large loop (LRR 5)
Start the hike at the Mecklenbruch car park in Silberborn. On a flat gravel path, go straight ahead. You look out over the wide rolling hills and forests of the Hochsolling, to the "mountain village" Silberborn, see red hill cattle grazing to the left of the path, and already glimpse the raised bog area behind light birch forests. However, at first you circumvent the bog on the large loop, initially "leaving" the boardwalk to the left. After about 1.8 km, turn left onto a narrower trail. Follow this trail for about 500 m until you reach a gravel path, on which you again turn left. Now you go uphill for a good half kilometer, at the next crossing again keep left. The hike now continues straight ahead for over a kilometer. Shortly before the next junction, take a shortcut to the left on a trail until you shortly thereafter go about 300 m downhill again on a gravel path. You can already guess it: at a wooden post marked with this habitat route "Raised Bog" you turn left again onto a root path, at the end of which you turn left one last time on this hike. You now head directly to the raised bog and the wooden boardwalk, which you reach after about 350 m. The spruces are more sparse here, and on some days you can observe rustic Heck cattle on the areas between the trees. Several information boards, a ring binder, and a rotating cube tell you about this bog and its development over the centuries. From a small lookout tower, you have a great view over the bog in the Lower Saxony hill country and a small bog lake that lies directly on the boardwalk. When you reach the end of the boardwalk, about 170 m after the lookout tower, this time turn right. Here you are already on the route you came on. The same path now leads you back on a familiar route to the starting point at the Mecklenbruch car park, which you reach after around 1 km.
The habitat route is marked on both sides in every direction of travel.
sturdy footwear
The habitat route runs mostly on easy-to-walk gravel paths, with short sections leading over narrow trails. The absolute highlight of this hike is the wooden boardwalk that runs along the Mecklenbruch raised bog. This wooden boardwalk, several hundred meters long, can be very slippery in wet weather. Take special care here not to slip, and wear sturdy footwear!

The Mecklenbruch raised bog has its charm in every season, during the cotton grass bloom in spring as well as in the deep winter, when due to the altitude there can be a lot of snow lying.
