Before setting off to conquer the kilometers, take the time to properly visit the place! And how could we talk about the Domaine de Sédières without mentioning the splendid castle...
Originally a medieval fortress, the Château de Sédières was built in the 15th century by the Bothier family. The bastille was then a fortified residence, square-shaped, enclosing a small courtyard and a 5-floor keep. Remaining from that time is the drawbridge providing access to a remarkable gate flanked by two turrets adorned with machicolations and arrow slits. The castle underwent many renovations, particularly reworked during the 15th and 16th centuries to become the true heritage jewel of the "Italian Renaissance" known today.
Subsequently, the site passed into the hands of many owners, the estate housed an orphanage (destroyed in 1978), which was requisitioned during World War I to host German prisoners. Some time later, the castle suffered a long period of abandonment, causing the total looting of its furniture and woodwork. Threatened with ruin due to the spreading vegetation, it was saved by the Corrèze Departmental Council in 1965. After significant rehabilitation work, the Château de Sédières now hosts numerous exhibitions within its walls. Organized annually from mid-June to late September, these exhibitions take place in the building's various rooms.
After visiting the castle, how about exploring the estate lands with an orienteering course? Embark with your little tribe on the permanent orienteering route, offering 4 levels of practice (beginner to advanced): green (2.5 to 3.5 km), blue (4.5 km), red (4.5 to 6 km), black (6 to 8 km). For practice, a map is available for download on the Sédières website!
