WARNING New number / New markings: No. 87 and brown markers
On the route of the Grande Traversée du Massif Central by MTB, set out to discover the Guilhaumard plateau and its magical beech forests before an immersion in dolomite. Tracks to warm up followed by sometimes technical trails.
To discover along the way: the village of Le Caylar in Larzac (the Roc Castel - the sculpted tree - small heritage - Theil park) - the village of Les Rives - Guilhomard house (Canals) - La Couvertoirade.
1
From the hall of Le Caylar, the MTB markers follow the Green Network and the GTMC route. After going under the highway, leave them a few hundred meters before Les Rives to continue straight on this beautiful rolling track.
2
Cross the hamlet of Les Rives and take the Combes path to the right after the pond. This is followed by a long alternation of rolling and more technical sections in a typically Caussenarde atmosphere, finishing by joining the GR marking on the RD 140 between the hamlets of Mas Raynals and Canals.
3
After the Canals cross, skirt the hamlet to the south to cross D140 again north of the hamlet and find the GR up to La Pézade.
4
From La Pézade, the GR will allow you, after passing under the highway and crossing RD 493 then RD 55 (be careful with these crossings), to reach the Knights' town of La Couvertoirade.
5
Bypass the town of La Couvertoirade on the right and opposite the South gate take to the right the itinerary which is doubled by the GR de Pays. This route is quite technical in some parts. You will follow superb ancient bush paths that have resisted time and mark the route. Arrival at Le Caylar is via the departmental road: be cautious.
