The Salonsaari nature trail winds through varied terrain and partly through a private nature conservation area.
Admire the natural state of Rautiansuo swamp, listen to the underground brook, or take a snack break at the highest point of the route on Huipunkallio by the mysterious stone circle. Moss-covered rock quarries and the trail running through dense spruce forest are like a fairytale.
Information boards along the nature trail teach you about the area's nature, as well as interesting history, geology, and ancient Tavastian wilderness hikers.
If you start your round from the first parking spot at Säynätlahti, follow the blue route markings to access the forest trail. The trail crosses the Hepo-oja forest stream and winds through coniferous forest.
Along the route, you pass the trap stone, which presents an ancient hunting method and old hunting paths called virkateitä.
At the highest point of the route on Huipunkallio, in addition to the bare smooth rock and stunted pines, there is also a mysterious stone circle.
After Huipunkallio, you descend back into the forest, passing magnificent glacial erratics, an old mud extraction site, and a forestry work area hut.
Rautiansuo is a sparsely forested natural swamp that brings variety to the forest landscape. On the other side of the trail, there is a rocky quarry from which stone was once quarried for the construction needs of the Vääksy canal.

Waterproof shoes or rubber boots are recommended during rainy times, as some parts of the route may be flooded despite the boardwalks.
The trail is at times rooty and steep. Especially when wet, rocks, roots, and boardwalks can be slippery. Please note that there is no possibility to make a fire on the nature trail.
From the Salonsaari summer kiosk, turn onto Huhdintie and follow the road for just over a kilometer. Turn right onto Säynätlahdentie and continue for about 600 m. On the left side of the road is a parking spot. Follow the blue route markings to the nature trail.
There are three parking spots along the route, all with free parking.
At the Salonsaari kiosk, open in summer, you can buy refreshments or small snacks.
