The Po River from Villafranca Piemonte is the starting point of the Strade dei Forti and Monviso the ‘beacon’ that will accompany you along much of the route. You will come across heroic orchards and vineyards, plain castles and alpine fortifications, lakes and waterfalls, towns rich in history and some of the most beautiful villages in Italy. You will cycle alongside the imposing Fort of Fenestrelle and ride the wonderful Strada dell'Assietta. A journey that also unfolds within the Cottian Alps Park and partly retraces the Path of the Glorious Return of the Waldensians.
An MTB ride that is not overly technical but requires good training; excellent experience is required for gravel bike enthusiasts and, in some sections, it might be necessary to push the bike for short distances.

Some asphalt stretches and some crossings of main roads may be busy.
A55 from Turin: exit AIRASCA and SP 139. Follow signs for Villafranca Piemonte.
Train: sfm2 line Pinerolo-Chivasso, Airasca stop - info at www.trenitalia.com - continue by bike along the Via delle Risorgive cycle path to Villafranca Piemonte.
Bus: www.cavourese.it - www.buscompany.it - www.torino.arriva.it
There are public parking areas in Villafranca Piemonte.
