SUSA - Colle delle Finestre
It is certainly well known among road cycling enthusiasts as one of the epic climbs of the Giro d'Italia and the Tour de France, but obviously also used by MTB and e-MTB allowing access to other routes...
The route develops from the valley floor of Susa on asphalt for just under 11 kilometers, up to the Colletto di Meana; the last section, shorter, is entirely on dirt leading to the pass.
The overall average gradient exactly measures the difficulty: a slope of about 14% for a stretch and then almost constant at 9% for the entire length of the climb. The landscape is varied: from chestnut woods to grassy meadows crossed by wide and regular hairpin bends, very close together and in tight succession (there are 28 of them, out of a total of 33 for the entire climb).
Once at the top, the view is breathtaking and cancels out the effort of the ascent, including the dirt: from here you can see from above the Susa Valley dominated by Monte Rocciamelone.
It is possible to continue towards the Val Chisone and Sestriere or return to Susa on the same road.
From the large parking lot near the Susa train station, take Corso Stati Uniti, SS25 up to the roundabout which to the right leads into Corso Generale Della Chiesa, keep right and continue for about 200 meters on the SS"$ until reaching near the intersection the road SP 172 Strada Colle delle Finestre leading to Meana and the Colle delle Finestre.
