The climb of the Jafferau is a real ascent of almost 8 kilometers, with a total height difference of 654 meters and an average gradient of 9% with peaks up to 14%. Along the road you pass through the hamlet of Millaures and then Gleise, then continue following the hairpin bends that lead to the dirt clearing where Bacini Frejusia are located. This climb has always been one of the most demanding around Bardonecchia and has been included several times in the Giro d'Italia program. It was in 1972, with the Savona-Bardonecchia stage, that Jafferau was christened with a stage won by the Belgian Eddy Merckx; in 2013 the Giro returned again to Jafferau and finally, in 2018, the Giro d'Italia came back for the third time to the Jafferau climb with the nineteenth stage, Venaria-Bardonecchia, which saw the solitary Chris Froome triumph after an incredible escape that started on the Colle delle Finestre.
From Piazza Statuto take Via Sommeiller and then immediately turn right on the bridge following the signs for Millaures and Gleise. Follow the provincial road SP238 until you reach the hamlet of Millaures and after a few kilometers also the village of Gleise. Continuing, after some hairpin bends you arrive at the location Bacini Frejusia, which is the stage finish of the Giro d'Italia. The return is on the same route as the outward journey.
