Chocolate Cycling Route / 2nd Stage

From Gleiszellen-Gleishorbach, which invites you to linger with its picturesque vintner's lane, the stage first leads around Pleisweiler-Oberhofen. A magnificent panoramic view shows the double village at its best. (Tip: Please watch the traffic in the center of Pleisweiler – you will cross the main road there.) Passing the Ullrich winery, it goes into the spa town Bad Bergzabern (South Palatinate Thermal Bath, Kurpark, atmospheric old town with castle and inn "Zum Engel", the oldest Renaissance building in the Palatinate).

Through the residential area "Maxburgring" you reach the Wine Route and continue to follow the signs of the German Wine Route cycle path. You now come to the castle in Bad Bergzabern. From the castle, you reach the Café Herzog on Marktstraße where you can redeem your praline voucher.

After visiting the confectionery, continue to the newly designed Ludwigsplatz. You cross it and follow the street further. Now it goes through the vineyards, past the Sleeping Beauty village Dörrenbach (half-timbered town hall, church with fortified cemetery) over Oberotterbach to Schweigen-Rechtenbach (German Wine Gate on the border to Alsace), where the romantic town Wissembourg already greets you. In Wissembourg you can redeem your voucher for coffee and cake at the Patisserie Rébert (7 Place du Marché aux Choux). The route continues over the German-French Pamina cycle path to Schweighofen. Here you pass the airfield and follow the cycle path into the town center. Then turn right and follow the main street towards Kapsweyer. In the village, you reach a bend in the priority road, where you keep right towards the next village Steinfeld. From Steinfeld your route leads you via the Fassbodentour through the lovely wine village Dierbach.

After passing Dierbach, you reach a crossroads and follow the Petronella Rheinweg towards Bad Bergzabern. (Attention: You now reach a main road, follow it for about 50m and then turn left onto a field path.) You now arrive at Oberhausen. You cross the large intersection in the town and follow the street to the grape reception point of the winemakers' cooperative Deutsches Weintor. Here you turn left and are welcomed by the cycle path "From Riesling to Zander" which leads you via Kapellen-Drusweiler and Niederhorbach back to Pleisweiler-Oberhofen, whose beautiful main street invites you to a glass of delicious Palatinate wine. You now reach the German Wine Route cycle path again and return to your starting point Gleiszellen-Gleishorbach.
