The route has moderate inclines and is especially suitable for leisure and pleasure cyclists. The Fassbodentour initially follows the German Wine Route from Klingenmünster to Eschbach. Along the way, there are repeated views of Landeck Castle and Madenburg, which lie on the ridge heights of the Palatinate Forest. Afterwards, the path leads through the hilly vineyard landscape and the charming villages of Göcklingen and Heuchelheim-Klingen. A visit to the August Becker Museum, the Nikolaus Chapel in Klingenmünster, or the Bischoff Mill in Appenhofen is worthwhile. The funny Eschbach donkeys are also very worth seeing. There are numerous opportunities to take a break and sample local wines or have a picnic.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION: The cycle path will have new signage in 2025. Please do not be surprised if you encounter the two different logos shown in the pictures along the route.
Start your route at the August Becker Museum in Klingenmünster and always follow the path logos along the Wine Route cycle path to Eschbach. Here you leave the German Wine Route and roll right down with a view of the small Kalmit before turning right again in a loop to Göcklingen. Now cycle through the town following the signs until you reach the quaint wine village of Heuchelheim after about 3 km. From Heuchelheim, cycle along the bike path through the vineyard rows until you reach Appenhofen after another 4 km. Continue through the town and head back to the hills of the Palatinate Forest, cycling over the small village of Klingen up to your starting point at the August Becker Museum in Klingenmünster.
Sturdy footwear, weather-appropriate clothing, sun and rain protection, as well as sufficient supplies of food and drinks, as there are not always places to eat or shop available or open. Although the path is very well marked throughout, for safety reasons you should always carry a suitable cycle/hiking map.
Cycling on farm roads - Our cycling routes often run on paths shared with others. We therefore ask for considerate and friendly behavior at all times. Winegrowers, farmers, and forestry workers use the farm roads through fields, forests, and vineyards for their daily work – also on weekends. Due to work operations and/or weather conditions, the roads may sometimes be more heavily soiled. Extra caution is also required when cycling through the streets in and around Palatinate villages. Road closures and detours must be observed without exception.
Danger situations - In the event of an emergency, quick help is needed. Even though mobile phones can send GPS signals, classic rescue points are often fastest. These are located at places easily accessible by rescue vehicles. Remember the points with green signs and a white cross. In an emergency, return there and give the number on the sign when calling for help. That way, rescuers will know where to find you.
You can reach Klingenmünster via the German Wine Route (L508).

If you don't mind the climb, a detour to Landeck Castle is worth it. Enjoy the view over the Rhine plain and a small refreshment at the castle tavern!
