Kult(ur)wald themed route - on the way with the uRnature app

There are three starting points for the Kult(ur)wald themed route:

You can start either at the end of the developed Römerweg in Hambach, or at the Nollensattel - parking lot "Am Nollen", or you use the actual main start point at the end of Waldstraße, shortly before the grounds of the Herz-Jesu Monastery.

Our route description of the roughly 3.5 km short and varied hike through the beautiful Neustadt city forest also begins there.

At the start, you have to "climb" the switchbacks of Conrad-Freytag-Weg but are repeatedly rewarded with wonderful views of Neustadt and its location in the Upper Rhine plain.

There are also seating and resting areas at the Conrad-Freytag-Blick monument. Soon you will come upon the Römerweg, which keeps to the right, passing the former Römerklause and the Hambach marksmen, leading back into the forest.

Here the main hiking trail splits, and you should follow the upper left path, which leads us to the further stations of the themed route. Here you hike through a chestnut-oak mixed forest at the end of which another bench with a wonderful view awaits.

From there you look out over the Palatinate Forest and the ruins of Wolfsburg, which still stand within the Neustadt district. From here, you turn back and follow the upper path that runs above the previously used path; now the themed route is also part of the Weinsteig.

On a flat path, you soon reach the so-called Nollensattel with a small parking lot and more resting opportunities. From there, you follow a typical Palatinate "Pädel", which leads downhill again to Römerweg, following the left signage of the Weinsteig.

At the mausoleum of the Conrad-Freytag family, you return to a part of the outbound path. Now you can comfortably return to the starting point by following the switchbacks downwards.

By train to Neustadt an der Weinstrasse - main station.

From the station, follow the signposted access path to the Weinsteig or Keschdeweg towards Hambach Castle and then from the end of Waldstraße follow the logo of the themed route.

Bus no. 502 with exit at Neustadt, Am Nollen stop. From there, walk up the street Am Nollen to the turning area and join the themed route from there.
