The leisurely hike leads over fields, meadows, and vineyards and is individually adaptable around Minfeld and Freckenfeld, two interesting little villages located in the Bienwald region near Kandel. The vineyards "Gräfenberg" and "Schellenberg" lie on the path, and on the slightly higher sections, you have a wonderful view of the South Palatinate landscape and the Palatinate Forest (Haardt). The two villages have a lot to offer, such as some artworks in Minfeld or the Dampfnudeltor and the Napoleon bench in Freckenfeld.
WATCH OUT! - Campaign for considerate coexistence in nature:
Act considerately - Always behave with foresight, friendliness, and consideration towards everyone you meet. This is especially important on work paths where vintners, farmers, and foresters work even on weekends. Picnic & Waste - Remember a rubbish bag for the way and take your trash back home. Use only furnished rest areas for breaks and picnics. Nature conservation - Stay on designated paths and avoid unnecessary noise when in nature. Leave the forest at dusk at the latest to avoid disturbing nocturnal animals. Fire & Smoking - Making fire, smoking, and grilling are strictly forbidden in the forest and must absolutely be avoided! Fires and thus great damage to nature and animal life can only be prevented this way. Leash your dog – Please always keep your dog on a leash. Other visitors and animals will thank you.More information at www.pfalz.de/uffbasse.
The start of the Wine and Meadow Path is at the sports field in Minfeld. Here you will find an information board about the route. We follow the signage (path logo: bunch of grapes) in an eastern direction. Initially, the path leads us along meadows and fields to the outskirts of Minfeld. After crossing the Holzgasse (please be careful and watch the traffic), the path goes along a meadow trail past two historic sawmill machines before continuing along the Hintergraben towards Kandel. At the outskirts there, the Saarstraße is crossed and you walk northwards until you reach the Höhenweg. Here we turn left and, with a clear view in all directions, go through the fields back towards Minfeld. We pass the organic village market Schoßberghof, and anyone feeling hungry in the meantime can stock up here with fine picnic delicacies. Just behind Schoßberghof we turn right. Here begins the Minfeld Bee Educational Trail, which is a worthwhile destination for another hike. However, we turn left and reach the vineyard "Schellenberg." At the end of the path, we reach a T-junction where we have a wonderful view over wide fields towards the Palatinate Forest. We turn left, cross the country road (caution - please watch the traffic) and take the path on the left with a view towards Minfeld. Further along, we pass the old mill, some orchards, and reach a Bienwald rest bench below the Protestant church. Here we cross another country road and then keep right towards Welschhof, turn left and arrive at the path by the village creek. Anyone who now wants to end the circuit turns left and returns to the starting point at the sports field.
The Wine and Meadow Path continues to the right towards Freckenfeld. On the right side, you pass orchards, pastures, and a stork's nest. The path goes along the village creek to Köhlergäßel, where we turn right, then left through the Gänsrid, cross the main road, and reach the vineyard "Gräfenberg" via Karlshöhlchen. Along the vineyards, we follow the signage until we reach the natural monument "Wildbirne" through a sunken path in Freckenfeld. Opposite, a reconstruction of a Napoleon bench invites you to rest. We turn left into Kirchstraße and follow it to the primary school. Here the path branches right and passes the village fountain. The path continues right along the main road. We pass the famous Freckenfeld Dampfnudeltor – who knows how many "Dampfnudeln" are hidden inside?
At Wattstraße, we turn left and then take the left path along the village creek. Here a bee educational trail was created that invites visitors to pause. Bee-friendly perennials ensure a lively buzzing and humming; the display boards provide interesting and unknown facts about bees, and numerous benches invite you to rest on this peaceful path. Straight ahead, the path leads past the Freckenfeld stork's nest, orchards, and meadows back to the starting point in Minfeld.
The path is signposted in both directions and can therefore also be used as a circular route around each individual village. Those who want to shorten the round in Minfeld turn left at the Hintergraben towards Minfeld, then go right in Holderbusch, cross the main road, and walk straight ahead to the Höhenweg. Here the path continues left towards Schoßberghof.
Áno
For our hiking tours, we recommend the following standard equipment:
- sturdy footwear
- weather-appropriate clothing
- sun and rain protection
- sufficient supply of food and drinks, as refreshment or shopping options are not always available or open
- Although the paths are very well marked throughout, it is advisable for safety reasons to always carry a suitable hiking map, so that, for example, in case of a thunderstorm or emergency, you can quickly find a safe area.
We also recommend mosquito protection near streams, especially in the warmer months.
Hiking on natural paths and trails – Especially in autumn, be aware that fallen leaves on the ground can hide uneven spots, roots, stones, or holes in the path. After thunderstorms or heavy rain, trees may still fall or branches can break off. In adverse weather conditions, natural paths can have muddy and slippery sections. Not all rocks or cliffs are secured with ropes or railings. Surefootedness is required in some places. You must expect such path impairments when hiking. If you consider certain path sections impassable, you should avoid them. Despite the marking of hiking trails, it is always recommended for safety reasons to carry an appropriate hiking map so that you can quickly find a safe area in case of a thunderstorm or emergency. Path closures and detours must be strictly observed.
