As a result of the renaturation of an open-cast mining near the southern city limit of Görlitz a paradise for water lovers was created in the last decade. The almost 1,000-hectare, 72-metre-deep Berzdorf Lake is not only the fifth-largest lake in Saxony but also one of the most popular.
For water sports enthusiasts such as surfers, sailors and stand-up paddlers, Berzdorf Lake is ideal to live their passion. If you just want to go for a swim several swimming sites invite you to get into the crystal-clear and refreshing water.
And in winter you will be impressed by the winterly flair of the lake and its landscape.
You start the tour at the railway station in Hagenwerder and walk past the car dealership and the ranch at the lake towards the lake. At the lake turn left and walk along the lake.
Walk around the headland where a great goat outdoor enclosure is located. Afterwards you will reach the harbour. Here it is possible to enjoy the view and visit further attractions such as the bucket-wheel excavator 1452. Follow the way along the lake towards "Blaue Lagune". You will walk past moated castle Tauchritz, which is alsways recommendable to take a photo.
The "Blaue Lagune" is perfect to make a longer break. Here you can swim, kids can play in the playground, you can relax or enjoy delicious ice cream.
The tour continues along the shore of the lake through the nature reserve (landslide P) to northeast beach. Here another beautiful sandy beach, a playground and different culinary offerings are located. From here walk back towards the starting point in Hagenwerder.
It is also possible to shorten the tour. You can take bus line E from stop Tauchritz, stop "Blaue Lagune" or stop northeast beach back to railway station Hagenwerder or Görlitz.

By car
Take route B99 from Görlitz heading for Zittau to Hagenwerder.
By train:
Take train number OE65: Görlitz – Görlitz/Weinhübel – Hagenwerder – heading further to Ostritz and Zittau to Hagenwerder

Free parking is possible at Hagenwerder railway station.
