This variant of the long-distance hike "Pinzga Hatscher" starts in Viehhofen and uses the ZellamseeXpress to ease the first ascent. From the mountain station at Salersbachköpfl (1,934 m), an impressive panoramic view of the Hohe Tauern and the Steinernes Meer opens up – the perfect starting point for a scenic hike over gentle grassy mountains towards the Glemmtal.
The path runs over Schmittenhöhe via well-trodden mountain and meadow trails, passing rustic alpine huts and blooming mountain meadows. Panorama spots invite you to pause again and again. The destination of this stage is Saalbach, the heart of the Glemmtal.
On the other side of the street, opposite the tourism office, the ascent towards Schmittenhöhe begins. Pass the mid-station and always follow the signs to Salersbachköpfl and further to Schmittenhöhe. Continue on the Pinzgauer Spaziergang along the ridgeline. Past the west summit, the hiking route leads to the mountain station of the Schattberg X-press. The descent takes place via the well-known north run for skiers into the town center of Saalbach.
VARIANT:
Significantly shortened hiking time by using the mountain lifts.
Instead of the 3-hour ascent to Salersbachköpfl, the zellamseeXpress is recommended. (Observe opening times!)
Instead of the descent into the valley (2.5 hrs.) to Saalbach, a descent with the Schattberg X-press.

! Attention COWS !
- correct behavior: keep distance, stay calm, keep dogs on a leash, do not pet or feed calves, take warning signals seriously!
Planning and preparation: Plan every intended mountain hike carefully beforehand. Hiking maps and guides as well as information from alpine clubs and locals such as mountain guides and hut hosts can be helpful.
Equipment on the mountain: You need appropriate equipment and clothing, especially sturdy, high footwear with a grippy sole. Weather and cold protection are essential, as the weather can often change unexpectedly.
Weather forecasts: Pay attention to current weather conditions at: www.zamg.at or www.uwz.at
Together Keep in mind: the 10 rules for proper interaction with grazing animals and do not leave any litter in nature!
Do not dislodge stones! Do not dislodge stones as this can seriously endanger other hikers. Marked areas with danger of rockfall should be crossed as quickly as possible with attention and caution.
Turn back in time! This is not shameful but a sign of wisdom. It becomes necessary when the weather changes, fog sets in, or if the path is too difficult or in poor condition.
