The Filzensattel with a pass height of 1290 m is located on the northwestern edge of the Salzburg Slate Alps in Pinzgau between Hinterthal and Dienten (in Pongau). The Hochkönig road B 164 over the Filzensattel is well developed with some narrow sections.
From Saalfelden, it goes to Maishofen and further to Zell am See – Thumersbach. Along the shore of Lake Zell via Bruck to Taxenbach and Lend. There begins the climb along the Dienten brook to the Filzensattel in the face of the Hochkönig. Once there, the descent begins to Hinterthal via Maria Alm to Saalfelden.
In the center of Saalfelden, opposite the town hall square, you will find the large parking lot (Note: partly short-term parking zone)
