Circular hike through the high moor at Dientner Sattel

From the Dientner Sattel bus stop, follow the forest road to the Dientalm and walk a short distance on path no. 75 (Tiergartenalm). After a right turn, continue on path no. 77 and hike over the beautiful alpine pasture towards the forest. Once you reach the edge of the forest, go straight ahead through the beautiful high moor (path no. 78) and enjoy the flowers and plants at the roadside as well as the pristine forest. The trail leads you to a wide path that is used as a ski slope in winter. Here, turn right and walk a short distance uphill on path no. 77a to the Zapferlalm. After a well-deserved refreshment, hike back to the starting point of the hike along the "Animal Carver's Path" (no. 77), passing many carved animal figures. A tasting of the homemade cheese specialties at the Dientalm is of course not to be missed!

Self-assessment: Before any mountain tour, check your physical fitness and realistically assess your strength as well as the strength of your companions – especially that of children! Surefootedness and a head for heights are often very important!

Planning and preparation: Carefully plan every intended mountain tour in advance. Hiking maps and guides as well as information from alpine clubs and locals such as mountain guides and hut keepers can be helpful.

Equipment: In the mountains you need appropriate equipment and clothing, especially sturdy, high footwear with a grippy sole. Weather and cold protection are indispensable, as the weather can often change suddenly.

Weather forecasts: Pay attention to the current weather conditions at: zamg.at or www.uwz.at. 

Together: Observe the 10 rules for proper interaction with grazing animals and do not leave any trash in nature!

Do not dislodge stones: Do not kick stones down, as this can seriously endanger other hikers. Marked areas with risk of falling rocks should be crossed as quickly as possible with care and attention.

Turn back in time: This is no disgrace but a sign of reason. It becomes necessary if the weather changes, fog sets in, or if the path is too difficult or in poor condition.

Arrival from Salzburg: On the A10 motorway to the Bischofshofen exit, then on the B311 towards Bischofshofen. Follow the Hochkönig federal road/B164 to Mühlbach. Continue towards Dienten. At the highest point (Dientner Sattel) there is a large parking lot on the left side.

Arrival from Innsbruck/Kufstein: On Loferer Straße/B178 towards St. Johann i.T., then over the Hochkönig federal road/B164 via Saalfelden and Maria Alm towards Mühlbach. At Dientner Sattel there is a large parking lot on the right side.
