Panorama circular route Hinterthal

You start at the church in Hinterthal, where there are plenty of parking spaces available. At a leisurely pace, you walk the gentle ascent along trail no. 401 A up to the Aueralm. In just over 30 minutes, you reach this first stage goal, and if you like, you can already take your first break here. The delicious products from the farm's own organic agriculture and alpine farming certainly invite you to do so.

Continue along forest trail no. 34 towards Filzensattel. Along the way, you have to briefly cross a road; about 100 meters downhill, the well-signposted path continues to Hochmaisalm, the destination of your hike. And then there's the magnificent view of the surrounding mountain landscape and the village of Hinterthal!

The return is on the direct trail no. 35. After a short hike of just over 30 minutes, you will have returned to the starting point.

Self-assessment: Before every mountain hike, check your physical fitness and correctly estimate your own strength as well as that of your companions – especially your children’s! Surefootedness and freedom from dizziness are often very important!

Planning and preparation: Plan every intended mountain hike carefully beforehand. Hiking maps and guides as well as information from alpine clubs and locals such as mountain guides and hutkeepers can be helpful.

Equipment: In the mountains, you need appropriate equipment and clothing, especially sturdy, high footwear with a good grip sole. Weather and cold protection are essential; weather can often change suddenly.

Respect: Follow the 10 rules for the correct handling of grazing animals and do not leave any rubbish in nature!

Do not dislodge stones: Do not dislodge stones because this can seriously endanger other hikers. Marked areas with rockfall hazard should be crossed as quickly as possible with attention and caution.

Turn back in time: This is not shameful but a sign of prudence. It becomes necessary if the weather changes, fog sets in, or if the path is too difficult or not in good condition.

Arrival coming from Salzburg: Take the A10 motorway to the Bischofshofen exit, then take the B311 towards Bischofshofen. Follow the Hochkönig federal road/B164 to Maria Alm.
Arrival coming from Innsbruck/Kufstein: Take the Loferer Straße/B178 towards St. Johann i.T., then continue via the Hochkönig federal road/B164 through Saalfelden to Maria Alm.
A valid vignette is required for using the Austrian motorway and expressway network. Carrying a first aid kit, warning triangle, and safety vest is also mandatory. More information at Asfinag.
