Großarl: Bichlalm

Drive along Ellmaustraße to the first right turn onto the Thalgau farm road. Continue driving to the Finsterwald parking lot. Initially ascend on a tractor path, then a steep climb via the Himmelsleiter (path no. 56) to the forest road (path no. 56A). Along the forest road, continue without elevation gain to the Bichlalm, 1,731 m (approx. 1 3/4 hours).

Alternative: Parking lot above Hotel Lammwirt:

Drive by car into the Ellmautal, past Hotel Lammwirt on the Jaitlehen farm road and continue on the forest road to the Bichlalmweg parking lot. From there, walk along the gently ascending forest road (path no. 56A) through the forest to the Bichlalm, 1,731 m (approx. 2 hours). 

Alternative: Town center Großarl and European table:

Start directly from the town center of Großarl. Ascend via Kirchgasse, past the church and continue to the European table and further toward the Finsterwald farm (approx. 1 1/2 hours). From there, proceed as described above via the Himmelsleiter to the Bichlalm, 1,731 m (approx. 1 3/4 hours).

Drive by car or take the Großarltal hiking taxi into the Ellmautal, along the first Thalgau farm road to the Finsterwald farm (parking available). Alternatively, drive by car to Hotel Lammwirt and continue to the Bichlalmweg parking lot above the Jaitlehen farm. You could also take bus no. 541 to the Abzw. Lammwirt stop and hike up from there to the Bichlalm.
