The first day of this two-day route starts from Vogorno, reachable by car or bus (Locarno-Tenero-Sonogno line). A steep – and apparently endless – stairway winds through a dense and wonderful forest to the alpine settlement of Rienza, where several rustic houses are located, some intact, others in ruins.
From Rienza the path begins to climb and the last 500 meters to reach the hut will make even the fittest sweat, not only because of the effort but also because of the heat on sunny days. On the Alpe Mognora, depending on the season, it is not uncommon to encounter cows grazing.
From afar Capanna Borgna (June to October) begins to appear, an unattended hut surrounded by gigantic peaks. Here you will find over 24 beds, toilet/shower and cooking supplies. It is possible to buy drinks and various food items. So nothing is missing to spend a night at almost 2000 meters above sea level in a high mountain setting.
