At the foot of the Lienz Dolomites, nestled amongst woods and meadows, lies East Tyrol’s only swimming lake. A popular lido with a café, a beach volleyball court and a large sunbathing lawn on the eastern side invites you to relax and enjoy a refreshing swim in unspoilt natural surroundings. From the western shore, right next to the Parkhotel Tristachersee with its award-winning restaurant, a path leads to the ‘Alter See’ natural monument, which lies beneath the impressive Seewand.
Here, in this tranquillity, rare plants thrive and it is a true paradise for many small animals and birds. Water temperatures up to 24°C, a diving platform; Regiobus routes 1 and 2 run daily from Lienz (from early July to late August); a large paid car park on the eastern shore.
The bus services are free for holders of a Dolomitenbad season ticket or annual pass, and for Sportpass holders travelling to the lake. Day visitors can have their bus ticket stamped for the outward journey at the ticket offices at the outdoor pool and at Tristacher See, and use it to travel home for free!
