Hiking with Fun & Gipsi's mysterious puzzle trail

On the route between Oberlech, Petersboden and Kriegeralpe, you can combine outdoor play, hiking, plenty of exercise and insights into the geologically remarkable gypsum holes. The Oberlech mountain railway takes you comfortably to the starting point of the hike. Once you arrive at the top station, take the path diagonally up the slope. Shortly after the “Goldener Berg” hotel, the path branches off to the left. Follow the path to the next junction, where the trail branches off to the right through the lower gypsum holes. Hiking through play: eight nature games along the way invite you to explore the gypsum holes nature reserve. The games combine creativity and physical activity, drawing attention to our unique mountain and alpine landscape in Lech. Simply scan the QR codes on the boards and follow the instructions. After the final station, follow the forest path, past the “Der Wolf” refreshment stop, to the Petersbodenbahn mountain station. Gipsi’s mysterious puzzle trail awaits you at the large puzzle board, leading you through six stations across the middle and upper gypsum holes. Scan the QR codes on each board to solve the puzzles and decipher the secret numerical code. Follow the trolls’ tracks into the hidden caves of the gypsum holes. The return journey takes you on the Petersbodenbahn back to the starting point of the hike.

Safety in the mountains

From Germany: Take the A96 motorway to Bregenz from there on the A14 motorway to Bludenz, continue on the S16 to the Lech Zürs am Arlberg exit. Follow the B197 up to Alpe Rauz, turn left here onto the B198 through Flexengalerie and over the Flexenpass to Lech Zürs am Arlberg.

From Switzerland: Via the A13 motorway and the Feldkirch, Hohenems or Lustenau border crossing on the A14 motorway to Bludenz. Continue on the S16 until exit Lech Zürs am Arlberg. Follow the B197 up to Alpe Rauz, turn left here onto the B198 through Flexengalerie and over the Flexenpass to Lech Zürs am Arlberg.

From Austria: Via the Inntalautobahn A12 and then via the S16 to the exit St. Anton am Arlberg (Arlberg Pass). Follow the B197 first through St. Anton, then through St. Christoph and over the Arlbergpass to Alpe Rauz. Turn right here onto the B198, drive through Flexengalerie and over the Flexenpass to Lech Zürs am Arlberg.

Special features: You will need a cell phone to scan the QR codes on the information boards along both trails. Gipsis Mysterious Puzzle Trail: The puzzle map for the trail is available at the Oberlech Mountain Railways and at the village reception desk in the Dorfhus.

Sights: With over a thousand sinkholes, the Gipslöcher are a geological phenomenon in terms of size and appearance that is unique in all of Europe. The hike is particularly beautiful during the orchid blooming season from July to mid-August.
