The community places particular emphasis on its distinctive townscape, with its restored half-timbered houses. The rural character of the town is to be preserved for the future. Hattenhofen owes its 1985 gold medal in the national competition “Let’s Make Our Village More Beautiful” in part to these two factors.
Nature conservation and climate protection are municipal priorities; the municipality has been a member of the Climate Alliance since 1993 and carried out the first ecological land consolidation project in Baden-Württemberg. These efforts to preserve and care for the environment are intended, not least, to create a natural and healthier environment and thus improve living conditions for our residents.
Numerous dirt roads offer excellent opportunities to observe and experience nature while taking a walk, hiking, or biking.
The Eichhörnchen-Weg trail leads past historic buildings to a picturesque panoramic view of the Albtrauf, the Drei Kaiserberge, and the Schurwald.

The Squirrel Trail begins at the picturesque, historic town hall in front of the church, which was built in 1698—about 50 years after the end of the Thirty Years’ War. The trail leads past the school and kindergarten to the Sauerbrunnen, a little gem of the village. Fifty years ago, the Sauerbrunnen was still in daily use, and its water quality has been scientifically confirmed.
The trail continues past the Greinerhof to the “Lindele” lookout point, which offers an impressive panoramic view of the Albtrauf, the Drei Kaiserberge, and the Schurwald.
The return route leads gradually back into the village of Hattenhofen, past the Rosswanghof to the sports field, on to the Graubach Valley, and finally back to the starting point at the Hattenhofen town hall.
Wear sturdy, non-slip shoes and weather-appropriate clothing. A backpack with water, snacks, and a first-aid kit is recommended.
When it's wet, some trails can be slippery and dangerous. Watch your step and use hiking poles for stability if necessary.
Hattenhofen is easily accessible via the A 8 (take the Aichelberg exit) and the B 10. From the A 8, take the Aichelberg exit and follow the L 1214 to Hattenhofen. From the B 10, exit at Uhingen and follow the route via Albershausen and Hattenhofer Straße to Hattenhofen.
