Waldheim Forest Educational Trail in Albstadt

We start from the Waldheim parking lot, passing the beer garden towards Schlossfelsenturm. At the foot of the Schlossfelsen, next to the trail playground, an old wooden board with some information about the forest educational trail, the official starting point, awaits us. Then we are ready to go.

After about 180 m, we turn right onto a beautiful path, descend a few steps and walk through the impressive rock portal. From now on, we are also on the family hiking trail Traufgängerle Hexenküche. The beautiful path continues along the base of the Schlossfelsen, passing viewpoints, numerous information boards about typical forest trees, steep rock walls, and small caves.

After about 750 m, we turn left. On the right, a bench with a view invites you to rest. We continue now towards Laizentäle; at this point, we are not only on the Waldheim forest educational trail but also on the premium hiking trail Traufgang Schlossfelsenpfad. On this section too, the beautiful wooden forest educational trail boards inform us about the forest habitat.

In Laizentäle, the next bench and a large insect hotel await us. Continuing on the forest road (following the yellow signs of the Traufgang), after about 200 m, we turn right again onto a beautiful forest path. At around kilometer 1.5, we reach a wonderful viewpoint into the greenery and to the opposite Schleicherhütte. Small break? No problem, a bench and a resting place with a table invite you to stay.

A wooden signpost "Forest Educational Trail" shows us the way. From now on, the path leads on forest roads through the Albstadt city forest. We cross the Waldheim street – please be careful here – and dive further into the forest. Numerous information boards here inform about the nutrient cycle, site flora, and forest trees.

At kilometer 2.8, we turn left towards the wild boar enclosure. You can already hear them rummaging and grunting, the bristly fellows. Several benches and tables practically call for a break.

We turn left onto the home stretch. Past the climbing park and soon after 3.7 km, we are back at the Waldheim parking lot.

Sturdy footwear is required.

Coming via the B27, turn off onto the B463 towards Albstadt/Sigmaringen. Follow the B463 through Albstadt-Laufen and Albstadt-Lautlingen to Albstadt-Ebingen. Head towards Albstadt-Ebingen main train station. Then follow the signs towards L448 Bitz. After leaving Albstadt-Ebingen, take the turnoff towards Süßer Grund/Waldheim. There is a large parking lot at Waldheim itself.
