Three very different scenic destinations can be hiked from the starting point Buchenmühle: Sulzbach, located on the Main river, can be reached via a 9 km route. The 7 km hiking route towards Soden leads to the Altenburg and the 7 km loop towards Dornau leads to the "World Axis," where you can enjoy a magnificent panoramic view of the Odenwald, the Main plain, and, in good weather, the Taunus.
From the Buchenmühle, which is now privately owned, you follow the Sulzbach along to the eponymous village of Sulzbach. This early medieval founding is connected with its favorable location on the Frankfurt-Nuremberg trade route.
Before you reach the former site of the medieval church St. Margaretha "Ruchelnheim," you pass the nature reserve "Mainaue bei Sulzbach," with a rich fauna and flora. The following information board provides information about the location of the former Ruchelnheim church, of which no architectural remains exist today. Until the 18th century, it was the center of an original parish. This first route could now end.
From the Buchenmühle, through the forest along the Benzberg, you come to the Schlossberg, where the ring walls of the former Altenburg are located. Following the trail marker past Soden, the second hiking route ends again at the Buchenmühle. If you do not want to miss out on a magnificent panoramic view, continue hiking 7 km southwards to the village of Dornau. The Dornau monument "World Axis" symbolizes Dornau's significance in the former cattle trade.

Access via A3 from Frankfurt or Würzburg exit 58, Aschaffenburg-West (towards Obernburg). Follow the B469, which has been upgraded to an expressway, to the Sulzbach exit
