Heidiland Hiking Tour 4: Kleinberg - Weisstannen

From the Berghotel Schönhalden on Flumser Kleinberg, the trail first leads to the neighboring Alp Wildenberg, where the descent to Cafröa begins. From here, you are on the Walsa Trail, which you follow for a longer stretch today. The path here always leads as a high-level trail towards Chapfensee/Weisstannen, with fantastic views of the Seeztal valley and the Alvier mountain range towering above. At Plon, after a few meters on the road, the hiking trail turns right into the forest and continues to a bridge that crosses the Cholschlager stream. From this bridge, you can spot glacial mills in the stream. Shortly afterwards, you reach the romantic Lake Chapfensee (with kiosk and fire pits), which lies in the middle of a unique nature reserve with remarkable flora. The trail follows the northern shore of the lake, where you also cross the dam wall. At the other end of the lake, always following the Walsa trail, you branch off from the lakeshore towards Vermol. The trail now leads through the forest to the hamlet of Vermol, which belongs to the municipality of Mels and is home to the Alpenrösli restaurant. The trail now descends along the village road, past the Vermol chapel, which is also a good place to rest. At the lower end of Vermol, the path branches off sharply to the right towards Schwendi/Weisstannen. After a while, you leave the Walsa path, which branches off to the left. Continue through the forest and past small waterfalls deeper and deeper into the Weisstannen valley. At Schwendi you reach the valley floor, where there is a village store and the Bachhüsli, which offers local baked goods and specialties. The path soon climbs again on the right and you continue along the Via Alpina on the right side of the valley to the village of Weisstannen.

The Hotel Gemse, situated at the entrance to the village of Weisstannen, is the place to stay overnight during the Heidiland Hiking Tour. It is very popular with hikers and offers peace and relaxation.
