The mountain biking and walking route built in Autioniemi follows old paths and an old railway embankment in the area. The route is easy for mountain biking especially along the railway embankment sections, but the forest path sections add variety.
The route starts at the corner of the old sawmill area. At the starting point there is a parking area with an information board. The route consists of two separate loops and a connecting section. The connecting section runs along the old railway embankment and the loops mainly on old paths in the terrain.
The route is for both summer and winter use. Near the route is also a lean-to shelter of Paltamo Motor Club/Sports Car Drivers association, which can be used on a self-service basis for example for roasting sausages, meaning everyone brings their own firewood and takes their trash with them. The lean-to location is marked on the information board.

The mountain biking and walking route in Autioniemi is marked on the terrain with wooden arrow signs and pictorial boards. In addition to the signs and arrow markers, there are blue fiber ribbons along the route as markers.

The starting point is near the center of Paltamo, between the railway station and Lake Oulujärvi. Follow Paltamo signs on highway 22 (Oulu-Kajaani); main road 78 (Paltamo - Puolanka) passes through the municipal center. Turn from highway 22 to Koikerolahdentie.
You can reach Paltamo both by train and bus. Check schedules on VR and Matkahuolto websites.
