We start at Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne heading towards Astaillac. After passing the pretty Estresses castle, turn right to climb to Astaillac, then above to Sioniac. The first climb sets the pace for the ride: there will be climbs, wild landscapes, small villages, and very quiet roads…
We then continue along the ridges passing Bilhac, Végennes, with successive small hills, amidst walnut fields. After Végennes, the terrain changes, becoming relatively less hilly. We pass near the Chapelle-aux-Saints, where at the beginning of the 20th century one of the oldest Neanderthal man graves (about 60,000 years old) was discovered.
After crossing the Branceilles vineyards, we reach the superb medieval village of Curemonte. Magnificent view. It's time to return. You must climb back up to Puy-d'Arnac, a solid ascent indeed, then continue along the ridge before descending to Sioniac towards Beaulieu, to have a well-deserved drink on the place du Champ de Mars...
